A free monthly book club for Black, Brown, and Indigenous women who love a good read and an even better conversation about it. We pick books worth staying up too late for, then we get together to praise them, argue about them, and gossip about every character who had it coming. Bring your opinions. We will bring the energy.
You know that feeling when you finish a book and immediately need to tell somebody? This is where you bring that. A whole circle of women who read it too, who caught what you caught, and who have THOUGHTS.
Every pick is by or about Black, Brown, and Indigenous women, and every pick has to earn it. Page-turners, gut-punches, slow burns, and the occasional book that will have you texting the group at midnight. No assigned-reading energy here.
We laugh, we gasp, we side-eye the character who should have known better. And because there is always a great host in the room, the talk goes somewhere good instead of fizzling into who-wants-to-go-first silence.
Here is the part nobody warns you about. You come for the book and you leave with a circle of women who get it. Plenty of our readers walked in as strangers and now cannot imagine the month without each other.
Every gathering has an easy rhythm to it, so nobody is left hanging and the conversation always finds its groove. Here is how a night actually goes.
We open the room, get comfortable, and settle in together.
A quick lap around the circle so everyone is in the room and warm.
The host drops the first question and we are off. This is the good part.
The tangents, the hot takes, the part where the book hits close to home.
One last thought each, the next book reveal, and we let you go.
And yes, there is a method to it. The easy flow is a light take on the same facilitation framework behind every Black Girl Assembly program.
Sign up once and you are on the list for every monthly gathering. We will send you the current pick, the meeting link, and a friendly nudge before we get together. Come every month, come when the book grabs you, come just to listen. Your call, always.

If The Assembly Reads turns into the night you look forward to all month, good news, there is a whole lot more inside. The Culture Collective is BGA's year-round membership community: healing circles, courses, coaching, money-making meetings, and a sisterhood that does not clock out. Book club readers get a warm welcome and founding member rates.
Actually free. No membership, no payment info, no upsell at the door. The Assembly Reads is our open invitation. You bring the book and yourself, that is the whole price.
Come anyway. Finished it, halfway through it, only read the back cover and the group chat spoilers, all welcome. Nobody is checking your page count at the door.
Online every month so women anywhere can pull up. Throughout the year we also host in-person meetups in major cities across the country. Sign up once and you will hear about all of it.
The Assembly Reads centers Black, Brown, and Indigenous women, and any woman who wants to read in that spirit is welcome. Grown women of every age gather here.
One hundred percent. Camera on, camera off, talk a lot, or just sip your tea and take it in. Show up however feels good. Most lurkers are running their mouth by month two anyway.
The Assembly Reads is one free gathering a month, no strings. The Culture Collective is the full year-round membership with circles, courses, coaching and more. The book club is a great place to start. The Collective is where a lot of readers decide to go next.
"I joined for the book. I stayed for the women who text me at 11pm yelling about chapter twelve. Best free thing I do all month."The Assembly Reads · Black Girl Assembly
